Understand How Road Base Failure Happens

To understand how SoilChem’s high-quality product works, we must first fully understand the causes of failure. The leading cause of road base failure is water encroachment into the road base and poor compaction.

Most all gravel and dirt roads, as well as chip stone roads, contain clays within road base. The clay may not be throughout the entire road base and sometimes may be more concentrated in areas more than others. Once water reaches the clay it will react like a sponge absorbing the water and swelling. This absorbing and swelling destabilizes and weakens the area allowing passing vehicles to create depressions and ruts (potholes).

Once this area dries it has lost its compaction and the problem will only worsen. SoilChem addresses these issues by permanently modifying the surface charge and structure of the clays by rendering them hydrophobic (water-repellent).

It also improves the compact ability of all affected soil allowing maximum compaction to be achieved. Maximum compaction is paramount for a sound road. SoilChem contains a proprietary blend of surfactants, enzymes and electrolytes and is totally biodegradable within 20 days.
